Trauma
Manage trauma triggers and responses
Are you seeking therapy to reduce trauma symptoms?
Traumatic experiences stay with us, long after the initial event has passed. They cause us to feel deep fear and shame. We can become hypervigilant, risk-averse, distrustful of others and hateful towards ourselves - all for a very good reason: we are trying our best to keep ourselves safe! My approach involves separating painful past events from present day experiences of strength and safety. We will review trauma science; identify safe people, places and memories; notice what triggers traumatic memories; validate and normalize trauma responses; mourn what was lost and ask what is needed today. Our goal is not a life free from trauma, but one where trauma responses are manageable and understood.
